ENGAGMENT
WHAT TO WEAR

We know it can be daunting to pick what to wear for photos. We are sure that you have been searching online for weeks and have seen so many photos already that you may be overwhelmed just because you want these photos to turn out great! Trust us, we want to make sure you feel and look GREAT. Remember that these are only guidelines, not rules! In the end, we just want to make sure your photos end up capturing your personalities!

— Stay True to You —

First and foremost it is so important that you guys look and feel like yourselves. We don’t want you to see strangers in your photos, we want it be YOU. If you feel like your style might be a little boring or uninteresting and think that your photos wont stand out. Trust us when we tell you that , your style is uniquely you, and will stand out in your photos because your pics will feel personal, rather than staged. If your style is boho, go boho! If you normally don’t wear heels, then don’t. If you don’t want to wear a dress, don’t! The more comfortable you are in your clothing the better you will feel and the happier you’ll be! We want you to look back at your photos and see you two… not someone on pinterest!

— Outfit Changes —

We invite you guys to bring two outfits, each. As for what we suggest.. stick to a theme. Your outfits can be different but make sure the outfits tie together nicely - not too crazy different in styles. We have found that it helps the session transitions between outfits and locations more cohesive! Here are some examples.

Outfit 1: Jeans/Shorts and T-shirts with jackets

Outfit 2: Jeans and a t-shirt for one of you, and a dress for the other

or

Outfit 1: Jeans and a t-shirt for one of you and a dress

Outfit 2: Slacks and white button-up shirt for one of you (not buttoned to the top), textured dress for the other

and etc… still tying in the dressy elements but still making the transitions beautiful!

— Location —

The next thing you’ll want to do is pick a location. It’s very important to pick a location that fits you both. If you are more of a city type, consider doing photos downtown or in your home. If you love nature, consider doing the shoot at park, local beach, field, etc. Think about where your best memories have taken place.

Once you’ve got your location, you can start planning outfits! I can’t stress this more—make sure your outfits fit your location! A few years ago, it was very in style to pair a dramatic dress with a nature location. Stay away from glamorous maxi dresses in fields. Make sure our outfits fit the location. If you love dresses, and are shooting in any sort of nature location, go with a flowy seasonal dress and boots, or bare-foot! If your style is more upscale, go with a city shoot! You can totally pull off anything! Ask us any questions!

— Time of Year —

The next thing to consider is the time of year your shoot will be. It’s important to make sure you’re wearing outfits that make sense with the time of year. If its cold out, bring layers, if its hot, pick clothes that will help your body breathe!

— Color Scheme —

Stick with neutral/muted colors. Layers look amazing. Flowy, fun and different clothes! We recommend keeping the patterns simple or prints pretty low-key so that way it won’t take away from your faces! Wear colors that compliment one another. You definitely don’t have to be too “matchy-matchy” with things. As long as the colors don’t clash, you’re good!

— Accessorize —

Accessories can be fun to play with, such as a cute hat, jean jacket, or even bouquet of flowers! Be comfortable and feel your best!

— Communicate —

Communicate with me throughout the process. I’m here if you need ANY help at all! If you aren’t sure about a particular outfit, feel free to send me, Jo, a pic! I am more than happy to advise and give my honest opinion about what will photograph well.

Once all of this is done and we feel set…we get to do the thing and have so much fun together!
